. A mood stabilizer treatment together with a psychological intervention increases the chances of pathological gambling disappearing when it is co-morbid with bipolar disorder. Mood stabilizers such as lithium and valproate have shown some efficiency in reducing problem gambling in people with bipolar disorder, which supports the hypothesis that it may be a bipolar-spectrum disorder. No single psychological intervention is a sure recipe to curb problem gambling.
